Diving the Bounty Wreck Gilis

No items found.

I dove the Bounty Wreck in July 2026 with Manta Dive Center, by boat out of Gili Trawangan.

The Bounty Wreck is one of the most dived sites in the Gili Islands, and on my visit that popularity was obvious. The wreck itself was crowded with other divers!

The Dive

The Bounty Wreck started out as a floating dock used by the Bounty Resort on Gili Meno. It sank in 1999 and has since settled into an artificial reef, lying at 18m and rising to about 8m from the surface.

Our boat dropped us a bit further out from the wreck itself, and we drifted into it on a slight current rather than descending right on top of it. Once there, it's easy to see why the site draws crowds, but that popularity cuts both ways, there were a lot of divers on the wreck during my visit, which made it feel more crowded than I would have liked.

The wreck and surrounding reef are known for soft coral coverage and a wide range of reef fish, several angelfish species, schooling fusiliers, and butterflyfish are commonly reported, along with turtles and whitetip reef sharks near the table corals and coral, though what you personally see depends on the day and how crowded it is.

Logistics

Booked through Manta Dive Center, boat out of Gili Trawangan, roughly a short boat ride to Gili Meno. I did this as a light drift dive, not a fixed-position wreck dive, expect to enter a short distance away and drift in rather than descending directly onto the structure.

Dive Conditions

Visibility on my dive was 80 ft (24m), water temp 82.4°F (28°C). Current was mild on my dive, more of a gentle drift than a fast-moving current, which keeps this accessible for beginner to intermediate divers. I wore a 3mm short wetsuit and felt warm!
