Everything I Saw Scuba Diving Kaş Canyon

No items found.

In June 2026, I dove Kaş Canyon off the coast of Kaş, Turkey.

This site packs two dives into one: a dramatic canyon with cave formations, and a 1968 shipwreck sitting at the bottom.

Entering the Water

This is a boat dive, sitting off the five islands area off the coast of Kaş, Turkey.

Boat entry point.

My dive guide explained to me that while some drop directly where I am in the picture above, the best way to do the site is surface swimming towards the top and around the backside of the island, and descending from there.

Follow the backside of the canyon wall and you'll start to see remnants of the shipwreck.

The Canyon

Base of the main canyon on the dive.

The dive starts shallow, descending into a narrow gorge with two steep walls dropping to around 20 meters.

Watch for strong current here, as aa strong southerly can push against you through the gorge.

This area is known for the occasional Mediterranean monk seal, so keep your eyes open.

The Dimitris Wreck

Following the right wall out of the canyon leads you to the Dimitris, a steel freighter that hit the islands in 1968.

The wreck is locally called the "Cotton Wreck" because of the cotton cargo that scattered across the bottom when it went down. The wreck runs from 27 to 42 meters.

On the way to the wreck at around 30 meters, look for an underwater memorial to Gökhan Türe, a diver the local underwater community credits with a great deal.

What Marine Life I Saw

Nudibranch on the canyon wall.
Great Amberjack swam right across me after exiting the canyon.
3 Ornate Wrasses towards the end of the dive.

Dive Conditions

Visibility was 25 ft when I dove in June 2026.

Expect a strong southerly current at the canyon entrance.

Early morning is the best time to hit this site.

Water temperature was 71.6°F at the surface, dropping noticeably at depth.
