Everything I Saw Scuba Diving Gubal Island in Hurghada, Egypt

No items found.

Gubal Island has several distinct sites worth knowing before you arrive.

Shark Point is the most talked-about site in the area, named for consistent reef shark sightings. The reef slopes from shallow to deeper water with coral formations throughout.

Gubal Garden is a shallow reef suited for both divers and snorkelers. Dense coral coverage and high fish density make this a productive dive even at shallow depths.

The area around Gubal also includes wreck diving, which is one of the reasons liveaboards prioritize this stretch of the Red Sea.

Multi-day Red Sea liveaboards regularly route through Gubal and give you access to multiple dive sites around the island across several days, a better option if you want to cover Shark Point, Gubal Garden, and the wrecks in one trip.

What Marine Life I Saw

There's a shallow barge wreck, a main attraction of the side. Covered in life.
Drifting along shallow reef walls were some of my favorite moments of the dive.
Scorpionfish hanging out in front of pulsing Xenia.
Pair of butterfly fish skirting away from.
Hawkfish resting on top of hard coral.
One of many clownfish aneome pairings I spotted here.
Stunning coral pinacles.

The Dive & Conditions

Entry is either a direct drop from the boat or via Zodiac, which is what I did.

The Zodiac drops you at the site and picks you up at the surface when you're done.
I dove this in May with 100 ft of visibility and minimal current.
